A plea to those who perpetuate bad limbs on their family trees

There are many in the genealogy world who copy erroneous information to their family trees, picking the rotten limbs off other trees and passing them on and on. This blog is created in a hope of helping to end some of this. It does no one any good to pass on misinformation and blatantly fraudulent branches on your tree. Put some effort into your work and produce a tree your family can be proud of, accurate and reliable.

Joseph Burkett, Carolina to Georgia

Joseph Burkett was born in 1790 and married to Sarah (Eller?) in 1819. His parents are reportedly Joseph Burkett and Mary Huber. Once source has made the stretch to assume that the parents of Joseph Senior were a Swiss couple, Christian Burkhart and his wife from Pennsylvania and that Joseph from the Carolinas died in Ohio. I'm not sure yet where where he died but I can't even imagine a couple from Switzerland, immigrating to Pennsylvania, running to the Carolinas to have a son and then end up in Ohio. That's not a migration pattern that usually occurred and the name Burkhart is not Burkett. It would seem that someone found a Joseph Burkhart the same age and tied the two together when they were unable to go back further in the Carolinas.
I just saw another source that claims Joseph Burkett's parents were Swiss Hueguenots.To my knowledge, Hueguenots were French protestants and had nothing to do with Switzerland.
